The Rouse & Dean Foundry, built between 1874-1882, served as a foundry and machine shop for Iowa Iron Works, which manufactured engines, heavy steamboat work castings, and building columns. Over the last century, the building has undergone significant changes.
Gronen has been rehabilitating this significant piece of history, restoring it with complete accuracy. This has included recreating the original roof monitor, a new roof with exposed timber wood ceiling, significant masonry and structural repair, and new windows.
Nicknamed “The Alamo” building, the foundry is located on a prominent corner in Dubuque’s Historic Millwork District. Now, completely restored, it is ready for its next use.
