Dubuque nonprofit Hills & Dales serves individuals with disabilities – helping to build meaningful lives. In response to critical need, the organization identified funds to develop a new autism facility to serve children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

Gronen was hired to oversee this multimillion-dollar rehabilitation of the building that will serve as a dedicated autism facility. When completed, the clinic will double Hills and Dales’ capacity to serve children with autism.

Project work includes the removal of multiple walls, including moving a structural wall. The completed state-of-the-art facility will feature high-end, durable, safety-features, including doors, windows, hardware, and flooring.

"Hills and Dales was very pleased with the opportunity to partner with Gronen in the pre-development, acquisition, design, and construction phase of our new Weber Autism Center. With the project funded in-part by a federal grant and donor contributions, it was critical that we had a partner up to the challenge of our transparency, documentation, audit, and budget requirements. Gronen made the challenge of compliance easy, on what could have been a very complicated project. Further, we were thankful the management team was along for the design phase to assure what we were drawing could be built practically, efficiently, and with the most durable products. Our project concluded on-time, on budget, and with an incredible degree of function and design for the children with Autism we support. Most importantly, the Gronen team understood, embraced, and challenged all contractors to hold the mission of the project as the guiding star—to create a place where kids with Autism can get meaningful help. Gronen served as partner more than they did anything else; to us, this trust meant everything."
